Description

Engraving on laid paper and watermark, taken from the volume by Jean Claude Richard Abb? de Saint-Non ‘Voyage pittoresque ou description des royaumes de Naples et de Sicilie’, France 1781-87. The sheet bears the inscription at the bottom ‘ Fragonard del. – Henriquez sculp. – Figures allegoriques peintes par Solimenes dans la Sacristie de l’Eglise de St Paul ? Naples’. The engraving is taken from a painting by Francesco Solimena made for the church of St Paul in Naples. The drawing from which the engraving is taken is by the French artist Jean Honor? Fragonard (Grasse, 5 April 1732 – Paris, 22 August 1806). flaws present, unframed. Copper engraving, dimensions 5.7×7.6 in.
