Description
Auction N.14 – Lot 038
Jan Miens Molenaer (Haarlem 1610 – 1668), attr. to, Peasants’ dance
One of the most important Dutch painters of the Golden Age, he is featured here with one of the most typical genre representations: the feast of peasants abandoning their tools of daily labour on the ground and delighting in music and dance. In the joviality of the expressions we can recognise the artist’s dependence on his apprenticeship with Frans Hals, the great and prolific renewer of Dutch painting in the first half of the 17th century.
Oil on canvas, dimensions ext. 57,8×74,4, int. 48,6×64,3 in.
