Lot 87:
Gold and enamel plaque depicting a battle, Germany 18th century
The model for this plaque is the gold and translucent enamel cameo made in 1561 and now preserved at the Bibliothéque National de France; the French artifact has been attributed by Bertrand Jestaz to the French enameler Simon Gaudin. The reference to the German sphere is supported by the Renaissance revival that swept through European courts in the 18th century. Overall dimensions 2.3×2.9×0.1 in., present defects
