Description
This Neapolitan sculptor and important exponent of Neoclassicism worked on the decoration of the Throne Room at the Royal Palace of Caserta in 1845.
The style was introduced into the Neapolitan city by German artists who were active here in the 1880s, and the artist’s production also includes the decoration of the National Library in Naples.
In this refined sculpture, signed and dated 1843, the sculptor depicts a cheerful Bacchus about to play the harpsichords, carrying a young boy on his shoulders who hands him a bunch of grapes.
