Auction N.14 – Lot 036
Gregorio Preti (Taverna 1603 ? Roma 1672), attr. To, Adoration of the Magi
This canvas is ascribed to the mature Neapolitan Baroque school, probably the work of Gregorio Preti.
The composition is certainly closer in style than the large scenic machines of Cavalier Calabrese, but Gregorio Preti’s focus on intimate and classicist compositions made him – if not as famous as his brother – certainly highly appreciated in the Roman context, as demonstrated by the various Aldobrandini commissions and collaborations on larger projects.
Oil on canvas, dimensions ext. 57,2×45,2, int. 50,7×38,1 in.
