Francesco Trevisani (Koper 1656 – Rome 1746), Madonna with Child and St. John the Baptist
A pupil of Antonio Zanchi in Venice and Carlo Maratta in Rome, the painter was employed by Cardinal Chigi and Pope Clement XI, for whom he painted the dome of Urbino Cathedral. His religious compositions are always animated – as here – by a great delicacy and sense of intimate contemplation of the sacred event. – Oil on canvas, dimensions ext. 51,1×43,3, int. 36,6×28,9 in.
